Get started with a P40 that Huawei borrowed the day before the official announcement.

Small, pleasant format

As already mentioned, the Huawei P40 is smaller than the other smartphones in this new series. So we have closed dimensions of 148.9 x 71.06 x 8.5 mm. That’s enough for the house 6.1-inch 19: 5: 9 OLED flat panel display – against a larger, slightly longer, curved plate in the Pro versions.

The Huawei P40 Pro (left) is larger than the Huawei P40 (right)

In addition, the Huawei P40 is relatively light at only 175 grams. It is therefore very comfortable to hold and even if it is always difficult to speak of a compact phone beyond the 6-inch bar, this model appeals to users who prefer small formats.

The effect ” Wow Is less present in the classic P40 than in the other versions, but does not believe that it does not have its little charm. His screen in particular occupies a very large part of the front. It’s nice, but it’s not enough to remove the thick black bands around the display area. Also note that the Huawei P40 also has a fairly large bubble in the top left corner to accommodate the front photo sensor and This is similar to a supporting TOF sensor.

On the back, the model we received benefits from one color Silver frost with a satin treatment that prevents fingerprints from being marked too strongly. Then there are the beautiful reflections and the pleasant texture in the palm of your hand. It’s hard to miss the photo module, even if it doesn’t contain “the»Three sensors and an LED flash remain a large vertical rectangle in the upper left while they protrude slightly.

The fingerprint reader is on the screen and is high enough to be easily accessible. No messages from the socket of this phone, which therefore only has a USB-C port. Also note a defect that should not be forgotten: unlike its big brothers, the Huawei P40 only benefits from an IP53 certification, which is not sufficient to ensure its waterproofness.

Finally, we quickly talked about it, the 6.1-inch screen benefits from a nice OLED display and definition Full HD + (2340 x 1080 pixels) with a resolution of 422 pixels per inch. However, the 90 Hz mode is not used.

Triple rear photo sensor

The Huawei P40 has three sensors in the spotlight. so we have The same very large 50 megapixel main sensor (1: 1.9) with a size of 1 / 1.28 inches and a RYYB filter developed in collaboration with Leica (red, yellow, yellow, blue) This enables more details, better dynamics, optimized color processing and good performance in low light conditions.

On the P40 it is also possible to take pictures in full format with 50 megapixels. The phone also has smart features that let you offer various editing tools after shooting, including deleting an unwanted viewer in the background of your picture.

The Huawei P40 camera application

The Huawei P40 also has a main sensor of 50 megapixels

The rest of the configuration changes on the Huawei P40 compared to the Pro model. There is no ToF sensor and you have to deal with it 8-megapixel telephoto lens (1: 2.4) with optical x3 zoom (instead of x5) and can go digitally up to x30 (instead of x50). The ultra wide angle has a definition of 16 megapixels (1: 2.2).

For selfies, you have a 32 megapixel sensor (1: 2.0). As mentioned above, the latter is accompanied by an apparently ToF sensor.

An ecosystem without Google

As with the P40 Pro, Google services have no place on the Huawei P40. It will therefore be necessary to deal with Huawei Mobile Services and the AppGallery. The Chinese brand promises to optimize their user experience so that you don’t regret the Mountain View universe. We’ll need another test to find out if the mission is accomplished.

Note that you are using an Android 10-based EMUI 10.1 interface with a MeeTime option, with which you can easily switch from your phone to a Huawei PC during your video calls. There’s also a dark mode (very dark), a gesture navigation system, and various options to personalize your experience.

Huawei P40 performance and battery life

The very powerful Kirin 990 is still here and has 8 GB of RAM. The phone shouldn’t have to worry about pure performance. You should also know that the Huawei P40 has 128 GB of storage (expandable).

Huawei P40 USB-C 3.1 connector

The Huawei P40 supports 22.5 W quick charge

For the battery we have a capacity of 3800 mAh, which is compatible with a quick charge of 22.5 W. The autonomy should be available if you know the good results from Huawei in relation to its predecessor models.

5G for all P40

The Huawei P40 is compatible with the 5G network and all French 4G frequency bands. Wi-Fi is available as well as support for eSIM.

In this context, also note that you can integrate two nanoSIM or a single nanoSIM and a nano memory card, Huawei’s proprietary format for memory expansion.
